After learning the Python language in our Joy and Beauty of Computing class, the students have moved on to Mobile Apps. We are working with the MIT App Inventor program. Students have learned how to use their system and have created multiple apps. Currently they are working on an App that uses GPS. It is amazing to see what they can come up with creatively. Even though MIT App Inventor uses block code, the students actually find it harder than typing code because of all of the guesswork that goes into figuring out where all of the blocks are. You have to have a strong plan in the beginning of the building process, or you tend to get stuck. At the end of the semester they will be creating an app of their choice that they may want to use some day. I am excited to try some of them out.
