    ART I (05154) – Elective, Fine Art; Open to grades 9-12
    Prerequisite: None
    Class size limited to15; $5 materials fee

    A survey course that includes a wide variety of art experiences and media. Lessons primarily focus on art making, but will also foster critical thinking skills through discussions, reflections/critiques, tests/quizzes, writing assignments, and art history units. Out of classroom work will include sketchbook and writing assignments. Students should be self-motivated and willing to try new medias and techniques.

    ART II - 2D: DRAWING AND PAINTING (05155) – Elective, Fine Art; Open to grades 10-12
    Prerequisite: Art I (passed with a “C” or higher”)
    Class size limited to 15; $5 materials fee

    This course covers a variety of two dimensional art experiences that build on concepts learned in Art I, with a focus on advancing student’s skills in drawing and painting. Lessons primarily focus on art making, but will also foster critical thinking skills through discussions, reflections/critiques, tests/quizzes, writing assignments, and art history units. * NOTE: offered every other year in rotation with Art II - 3D: Sculpture

    ART II - 3D: SCULPTURE AND CERAMICS (05158) – Elective, Fine Art; Open to grades 10-12; Offered 2021-22
    Prerequisite: Art I (passed with a “C” or higher”)
    Class size limited to 15; $5 materials fee

    This course covers a variety of three dimensional art experiences that build on concepts learned in Art I, focusing on projects that advance student’s skills in sculptural and functional work using a variety of materials. Lessons primarily focus on art making, but will also foster critical thinking skills through discussions, reflections/critiques, tests/quizzes, writing assignments, and art history units. * NOTE: offered every other year in rotation with Art II - 2D

    VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS / GRAPHIC DESIGN (11002) – Elective, Fine Art; Open to grades 10-12
    Prerequisite: Computer Applications

    This course will cover design and layout skills for both print and digital media. Students will be creating designs and products for a wide variety of applications that focus on building a positive image for RLHS, such as the Commons TV screens, posters, tickets, school blog and more. Who should take this class? Students should be very self-motivated and willing to challenge themselves with advanced techniques and concepts.

    INDEPENDENT ART – Elective, Fine Art; Open to grades 11 & 12
    Prerequisites: Completion of all currently available art courses and pursuing a post-secondary art degree

    Students must apply and present a portfolio. Enrollment in course must be approved by instructor and administration and is limited to available space in concurrently running art course.
