    CONCERT CHOIR (05110) – Elective, Fine Art; Duration- Yearlong; Open to grades 9-12
    Prerequisite: 6-8 choir strongly recommended
    Required Materials: Concert Black outfit

    Concert Choir is open to students who wish to study vocal music in an ensemble setting. Choir is a performance based class and students will be asked to perform at events scheduled outside the normal school day. Class activities include practice on specific vocal techniques and sight singing. This choir examines a wide variety of vocal music, from classical music in preparation for district music festival competition, to contemporary popular music that is performed at the music department’s holiday and spring concerts. Who should take this class? Self-motivated learners and team-oriented thinkers wishing to advance their skills, set and achieve goals and present what they have learned in a performance atmosphere.

    CONCERT BAND (05106) – Elective, Fine Art; Duration- Yearlong; Open to grades  9-12
    Prerequisite: 6-8 band strongly recommended
    Required Materials: Concert Black outfit, instrument; school instruments available

    Concert Band is a full instrumental ensemble that studies a diverse musical curriculum.  Class activities are composed mainly of ensemble rehearsal with core musical concepts and skills built into the class content. Concert Band is a performance based class and students will be asked to perform at events scheduled outside the normal school day.The band examines a wide variety of instrumental music, from classical music in preparation for district music festival competition, to contemporary popular music. The Concert Band also serves as the pep band for high school sports activities and performs at the music department’s holiday and spring concerts. Who should take this class? Self-motivated learners and team-oriented thinkers wishing to advance their skills, set and achieve goals and present what they have learned in a performance atmosphere.

    GUITAR I (05108) – Elective, Fine Art; Offered Fall semester; Open to grades 9-12
    Prerequisite: None
    Required Materials: Acoustic or electric guitar, bass; 1 ½- 2” three ring binder

    Guitar I, is an introductory class that provides students with instruction in basic guitar techniques and ear training.  Reading musical notation is a small component to the class. Students start with simple open chords. As the class progresses, students become familiar with all open chords and begin to learn bar chords. Students create the songbook for the class as they progress with their playing skills, they will select the songs. The students give a performance as a final. Students must supply their own instrument(s). Who should take this class?     GUITAR II (05108) – Elective, Fine Art; Offered Spring Semester; Open to grades 9-12
    Prerequisite: Guitar I and approval by instructor (audition required)
    Required Materials: Acoustic or electric guitar, bass; 1 ½- 2” three ring binder

    Guitar II is a continuation of the concepts taught in Guitar I, with an emphasis on performance and ensemble. This is a performance-based class. Students come together as a class rock band. Students select songs they would like to learn and perform. Students learn to read tablature, become more familiar with bar chords and play drum set. Students may experiment with other instruments in this ensemble setting. The students give a performance as a final. Students must supply their own instrument(s). Who should take this class? Self-motivated learners and team-oriented thinkers wishing to advance their skills, set and achieve goals and present what they have learned in a performance atmosphere.

    ENSEMBLE MUSIC / JAZZ BAND (05106)– Elective, Fine Art; Duration- Yearlong; Open to grades 10-12
    Prerequisite- 6-8 band strongly recommended, private piano or string lessons
    Required Materials: personal or school instrument

    Ensemble Music/ Jazz Band is open to students who wish to further develop their instrumental abilities working on solo small ensemble and jazz repertoire. Class activities include solo and ensemble repertoire and jazz ensemble. Students may use this time to develop solo and ensemble music for district music festival competitions, or performances at the music department’s holiday and spring concerts. Students must be self directed and self motivated.
